Crafty Commute Day – Wednesday December 1, 2010!

What is the Crafty Commute  Day?

The Crafty Commute Day is one day dedicated to showing the world that craft is cool again!  By crafting on your daily commute, you get more crafting time in your busy day AND inspire others to craft too.

How do I participate?

It’s simple! Just take along a portable crafting project, and craft during your daily commute.  This works best on public transportation (and less well if you’re driving!).  Take it on the train, on the bus, on the subway … wherever you go on December 1st, do your crafting along the way!

I don’t have a commute. How can I participate?

Grrr we’ll try not to hate you.  But you can participate too, even if (lucky you!), you’re commute-free.  Just take your crafting with you everywhere on December 1st … try crafting in line at the bank, while waiting in the doctor’s office, at a cafe, or meeting friends for drinks.  The point is to craft in public whenever you can that day.

What kind of things can I craft  during my commute?

Well, some crafts are more commuter-friendly than others.  You want something small, portable and non-obtrusive to your fellow commuters.  Small knitting projects (especially on circular needles!), crocheting, embroidery & cross stitch (if you don’t have to change colors very often), applique, quilting squares, hand sewing or even knotting some retro friendship bracelets (remember those?!)… most textile crafts lend themselves to commuting.

While we adore jewelry making and decoupage, these crafts aren’t so commuter-friendly.

Think portable. No mess.  Easy to do in small bursts of time.

OK, I’m in!! What do I do now?

We’re thrilled you’re going to help spread the crafty word on the Crafty Commute Day.  Prepare your projects.  Tell your friends about it so they can join too.  Tweet about it using the tag #craftycommute.  And make sure to take pictures of your crafty commute!! Send in your pictures and we’ll feature them on the website.
